The Manoa Fire Company, based in Havertown, Pennsylvania, boasts a swift water rescue team that has undergone extensive training and certification to handle water-related emergencies. This initiative began in response to significant storms in 2019 that necessitated water rescues in their area. The company acquired a swift water boat and the necessary personal protective equipment for their firefighters. Over the years 2020 and 2021, team members completed several certification courses from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, including Swift Water Awareness, Water Response and Emergency Rescue, Advanced Lines and Rescue Systems, Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue, and Ice Rescue and Emergency Response. They currently hold a Type IIA swift water rescue certification.
The team's expertise was put into action in various incidents, such as during a water incident in Ridley Township, where the swift water technicians played a crucial role. Additionally, they regularly participate in drill nights to hone their skills, like the ones conducted at Darby Creek, which focus on different water rescue operations and scenarios.
