EMS

Manoa Fire Company EMS (Emergency Medical Services) is a state certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance Service protecting the residents of Haverford Township, PA. Manoa EMS operates with 2 BLS Transport units, primarily in conjunction with Paramedics from the Haverford Township Paramedic Department (Delaware County Medic 108). We also have two Class-A Pumpers certified as QRS (Quick Response Service) units to assist our ambulances on serious medical calls.

Manoa Fire Company was one of the first companies in the area to get involved in EMS, buying our first ambulance, a Studebaker, from Episcopal Hospital in 1945. The ambulance originally covered Haverford Township, Marple Township, and Newtown Square. Following the Studebaker, Manoa Fire Company placed several Cadillac Ambulances in service. In the 1970's the Cadillacs were replaced with a van style ambulance, and in the 1980's the Company bought its first box style ambulance. In the mid-1990's Manoa placed a second ambulance in service and has been maintaining a two ambulance service since then. In 2003 Manoa Fire Company purchased its first AED's (Automated External Defibrillators), a landmark in our life-saving efforts. We now carry a total of 7 AED's, one on each of our four pieces of Fire Apparatus, one in each Ambulance, and one in the Chief's vehicle. Visit our APPARATUS page for more information on the ambulances we currently have in service.

Manoa Fire Company's ambulances are primarily staffed by VOLUNTEERS, 24 hours a day, in conjunction with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) from the Haverford Township Paramedic Department during the day. Manoa Fire Company's two ambulances handled almost 1500 EMS 911 calls in 2005 and 1600 calls in 2006. Our response to 911 EMS calls increases every year so we are always looking for more EMS volunteers to help staff our two busy ambulances. See our RECRUITMENT page for more information on becoming a member.
