The Manoa Fire Company is one of the five volunteer fire companies that protects and serves approximately 50,000 residents in the 9.5 square mile area of Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. We not only provide fire protection for the Township, but also provide Basic Life Support (BLS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the Township, splitting the EMS services with Llanerch Fire Company. SEVER STORMS MAKE FOR A BUSY MORNING

Around 7:45 am this morning, a strong line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area bringing heavy rain, thunder, and a lot of lightning. In the height of the stroms Squad and Engine 56 were dispatched to 100 block of  Ferguson Road in Broomall for house struck by lightning. 53 command determined an outside pole was struck and held the assignment to company 53. As the Squad was heading back down West Chester Pike two calls came in at the same time for the company, one for a MVA on I-476 and the other a water rescue at Drexel and Township Line Roads. Squad 56 handled the water rescue call, while the Rescue responded to the I-476. While clearing from both calls Engine and Squad 56 were disptached to Oakmont section of the township for a house struck by lightning. 38 Command held the assignment to Company 38. Crews from Company 56 ended the day with AFA at the Haverford Hill Apartments.  


 
SEARCH AND RESCUE DRILL AT VALUE CITY

Tonight, Squad 56 headed up to Value City in Springfield for a large area search drill. Squad 56 was joined by Springfield (44), Prospect (08), and Clifton Heights (03) for this joint training session. The crews gathered inside the old store for some introductory training on large area searches and then the teams got to work on the hands on portion of the drill. The crews where broken down into groups and put through their passes. All the finer points and options were gone over and reviewed. A good time was had by all and the drills will continue for the rest of the month.

ANOTHER VEHICLE INTO THE SAME POLE ON WEST CHESTER PIKE

Just after 9pm Company and Ambulance 56 were dispatched to assist the Police on the 2000 block of West Chester Pike for a vehicle into a pole stuck on an embankment. 56-9 arrived on location to find single vehicle accident into the same pole that was struck on Monday with two occupants still in the vehicle. Rescue 56 arrived on location and stabilized the vehicle. Squad 56 assisted crew from Rescue 56 with stabilization and the extrication of the two occupants in the vehicle. Both occupants were not injured. Units cleared just after 9:30pm.


 
VEHICLE INTO A POLE ON WEST CHESTER PIKE

At just about 10am after settling into the cover assignment at Company 38, Company and Ambulance 56, Medic 108, and HTPD were dispatched to 2000 block of West Chester Pike for vehicle into a pole with wires down and reported fire. Pipeline 58 was enroute to funeral services for Wally Poole and in the area of the accident took the call in as well. 56-9  and Squad 56 arrived on location to find a single vehicle into a pole with no fire and the occupant out of the vehicle. 56-9 held the assignment to Engine 56 for standby until PECO arrived. Sqaud 56 returned back to the cover assignment. 56-7 transported one with minor injuries.


 
   
   
COVER UP AT COMPANY 38 (OAKMONT)

Today Squad 56 along with Tower 34 covered the Oakmont section of the township while Company 38 was out of service attending the funeral services of past Assistant Chief  and Life Member Walter K. Poole. Wally will be greatly missed by all in the Haverford Township Bureau of Fire.  Our thoughts and prayers continue for the Poole,Straub, and Oakmont Families.
 


 
   
   
SOUTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA REGIONAL TASK FORCE

Manoa Fire Company participated in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task Force Drill on Saturday, April 25th.  The Task Force has been established within the 5 county Metro Philadelphia area for mutual aid assistance between counties.  The 5 counties involved are Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

The Delaware County Regional Task Force Team has been assembled with various Fire Companies and members throughout the county that are trained to the basic level of requirements established by the Task Force.  Manoa Fire Company has approximately 21 members that meet the requirements.  6 members participated in the exercise.

The Delaware County Task Force was dispatched at 07:00 hours on April 25th and assembled at the predetermined location of Marple Crossroads Shopping Center, Marple Township.  Once all required apparatus and personnel arrived, the Delco Task Force headed to the Philadelphia Fire Academy in Northeast Philadelphia for the training exercise.

This was the first training exercise where all 5 counties participated.  The exercise was an introduction to the Regional Task Force goals and objectives.  Training sessions were also held on communications and review of the water distribution system in Philadelphia.
 


 
   
   
MANOA FIRE COMPANY'S THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE POOLE, STRAUB, AND OAKMONT FAMILIES

It is with deep regret that the Oakmont Fire Company announced the passing of past Assistant Chief Walter K. Poole. Wally, as he was known to all, joined the company in February 1960 and had been an active member ever since. He was a past Assistant Chief and a Life Member of the Oakmont Fire Company. Wally will be missed by all that knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Poole,Straub, and Oakmont Families.

The officers and members wish to congratulate Captain Andrew Coll and his wife Liz on the birth of their son Sean Andrew Coll.   Baby Sean was born today at 12:04 hours.  Sean weighed in at 8lbs 6oz and measured 20 1/2 inches.  Mom and baby are doing well and resting comfortably.  Big Sister Madison has already started assisting with babysitting duties.  Congrats again to Coll's and look forward to seeing baby Sean with Dad soon at the firehouse.


 
   
   
SUPERFRESH FOR THE C0 INCIDENT

Just past 7am company 56 was dispatched to the Superfresh 1305 West Chester Pike for the C0 alarm.  56-9B and 56-7 were first to arrive and checked with the ambulance c0 detector and found high levels of c0 in the lobby.  56-9B requested Fireboard upgrade the assignment to a building response bringing Company 58, Ladder 35, Medic 108, Ambulance 56-7A, Ambulance 34-7, Tower 34 and Haverford Car 1.  Command was established while Squad 56 began to conduct a primary evacuation and secondary search of the building.  Ladder 35 handled the roof HVAC units with Rescue 58, 56 assisted in checking the attached store.  EMS Command 108-9 requested 3 more BLS and the Mass Causality Truck from station 34.  Crews with the assist of PECO located a malfunctioning bakery oven and secured the gas.  All units on scene assisted with ventilation and brought the incident under control at the 2 hour mark.  Great Job of teamwork by all members working on scene to bring this incident under control in a safe manner.   Units on Location  Squad 56, Rescue 56, Ambulance 56-7, Ambulance 56-7A, Tower 34, Ladder 35, Pipeline 58, Rescue 58, Ambulance 34-7, Ambulance 34-7A, Mass Causality 34, Ambulance 53-7, Medic 103-7, Medic 108, Medic 108-9A, Medic 108-9, Haverford Car 1, HTPD, and Haverford Fire Police.
